Frame &
foundation - our buildings are easy to build using simple 2x4
construction. A foundation plan is included with each planset. You
may build on a concrete slab or pier-type
foundation. Semi-portable buildings provide more options
when negotiating a lease for space. 4"x4" pressure treated skids
make the buildings easy to move & can be removed later if
necessary. "Build Easy" has nice diagrams for small building
construction & actual photographs are availabe at "My Storage
Shed." Concession Stand Plans will post photographs soon.
Siding - many siding options exist. Please note that T1-11
siding, common outdoor panel board, is not available in lengths
long enough to cover the sides of our design. It can still be used but
a seam will be present on the sides at 10'. This can concealed
with landscaping if left at the bottom. OSB (Oriented Strand
Board) with hardiplank or another type of siding works well but
is more expensive. OSB also gives you the option of installing
vinyl siding which is inexpensive, easy to install &
maintain. We've included some Certainteed links for your
information:
Interior walls - visit the paneling aisle at Home Depot or Lowes for
interior panels with thin tile pre-installed. They are lightweight,
easy to install & available for under $20 each. Sheetrock is
also inexpensive & an easy do-it-yourself project.
Electrical requirments - it is best to consult a local electrician or
your contractor concerning power requirments. Some restaurant equipment
requires 3-phase power; particularly ice cream machines & griddles.
Be careful when purchasing equipment & make sure this type of power
is available in your area & can be connected at your specific
location. Alternative cooking solutions are always
available. Good information is available on the internet.
Plumbing - it is up to you how to layout your kitchen.
Please consult your local health department before you begin.
Home stores have everything you need & can offer guidance.
Restaurants usually require several sinks. A 3-compartment sink is
necessary for cleaning utensils. Several sizes & options are
available. The Webstaurant Store has excellent prices and a
variety of sizes including 3-compartment drop in sinks. You should be
able to fully submerge your largest utensil in the basin. A sink for
handwashing is also required & a sink for washing food or
vegetables. A sink for mop water can be mounted outside to save
space & a sink for handwashing in the toilet area is also required.
If you locate your building in a parking lot then a restroom may
not be necessary. Portable toilets in the rear of the building
are an option & can be leased with frequent service for around
$75 a month. A grease trap may also be required which comes after your
sink's drain. (This sits on the floor under your sink with concession
stand size models available at Pex Supply.)
Roofing - we recommend EcoStar polymer slate recycled rubber roofing.
It looks nice, is easy to work with & will last forever. Many
styles & colors are available. Aluminum shingles (Tamko
Products) provide a professional look, are available in
many styles/colors & cost less than comparable rubber
products. If you prefer a traditional metal or vertical panel roof
then you may search for a contractor at the Metal Roofing
Alliance. Standard asphalt shingles are readily available in many
colors, styles & textures at any home store. They are also
inexpensive & easy to install.
Flooring - we recommend Armstong© Linodur commercial
Linoleum. It is inexpensive, lightweight & hides traffic. Many
other options exist but linoleum is the best choice if you ever plan to
move the structure. Visit the Armstrong commercial products site for
information & ideas.

A ventilation system is usually not required for hot dog
equipment & panini grills. Check with your local health department
before buying. Our
provisions page has
links to suppliers with inexpensive alternatives to standard commerial
ventilation systems. Ansul or fire suppression systems are also
available used if required. This type of equipment is always available
for a fraction of the original cost at local auctions. Search
BidSpotter.com or AuctionZip.com for listings. Auctions are also a
great place to find griddles & other equipment.
Sign shops are in every city. Inexpensive sign letters are available
online by visiting the links below.
Cost - due to the size of our buildings you can & should spend
extra on quality construction materials. Your customers will
notice the difference. Expect to pay around $10 a square foot if you
do-it-yourself. Just starting on your project will be sufficient to
motivate others to help. Please contact us for more information or
